Dales of Thirsk Ltd are very proud of our heritage and our people.
As a family the Collinson’s have run Dales, a monumental mason company since the 1960’s, passed down from 3 generations of the Dale family originating in 1880 and now headed up by Neil Collinson.
Starting out as memorial masons and diversifying into kitchen and bathroom surfaces, the Dales’ team have a true passion for and expert knowledge of stone products.
Specialising in Granite, Marble, Slate, Yorkshire Stone, Limestone and a variety of Quartzstone the Dales’ team are expertly trained and take huge pride with each bespoke piece of stone being manufactured and finished to your exact requirements whether it’s a memorial or a kitchen worktop.
We have a great sense of history when we use this hammer. Its actual age is unknown but we do know that it has been used by at least 3 generations of memorial masons. Used by Cyril Dale prior to Don Collinson and now by Neil the hammer is solely used for bespoke hand lettering and carving. It may have been used by Cyril’s predecessor, we don’t know for sure. A symbol of traditional art and craft.
Dales of Thirsk Ltd are very proud of our heritage and our people:
After leaving school in 1980 Neil joined his father Don in the family monumental masonry business and they worked alongside each other for 20 years before totally taking over the reins in 2000. Following his decision to diversify into kitchen worktops and natural stone products for home and business, Neil has seen the business grow rapidly. Neil is still very much hands on and directly involved in all aspects of the day to day running of the company from administration and sales through to manufacturing and fitting.
Nicky originally joined us on a part time basis in January 2015 before stepping up to take over as full-time office manager in April 2016. With her excellent organisational skills and professional attitude Nicky is very much the glue that bonds our sales, manufacturing and installation operations together. Nicky’s previous background in accountancy means she is comfortable looking after the company’s accounts.
Although sharing an identical name with our MD they are not related, but is now better known as Neil Junior!
Neil has a wealth of experience in the manufacture of natural stone products having previously spent 17 years with F Jones Ltd in Middlesbrough before joining Dales in 2004. Neil’s industry expertise is pivotal to the smooth running of our manufacturing process. Neil oversees the CNC machine and governs the quality control in manufacturing.
